On a typical training mission, we would take off near Sacramento, refuel over Nevada, accelerate into Montana, obtain high Mach over Colorado, turn right over New Mexico, speed across the Los Angeles Basin, run up the West Coast, turn right at Seattle, then return to Beale. In a cool, professional voice, the controller replied, ‘ Aspen 20, I show you at 1,982 knots on the ground.’ We did not hear another transmis sion on that frequency all the way to the coast.

Minibotrány van a BoingBoing-on: Charles Platt-et, akit talán lehet environmental scepticist-nek bélyegezni, gyakorlatilag kiutálta a BoingBoing San Franciscoban és Al Gore-on szocializálódott közössége. Be is fejezte a vendégbloggerkedését idő előtt, érezhetően némi sértődöttséggel az utolsó postban. Érdekes debate ez, mert Platt nem egy Hummert vezető redneck, aki szerint mindenki kommunista, aki egyetért vele; egyszerűen (és hozzáteszem: kulturáltan, sőt! előre látva/jelezve, hogy ezzel e felfogással, ezen a fórumon biztos parasztlázadást idéz elő) kérdőjelet tesz sok olyan “eredmény” mellé, amit mi, tudatlanságunk miatt, simán evidenciának fogunk fel, illetve elmorfondírozik, hogy milyen érdekcsoportok lehetnek a globális felmelegedés-lobbi mögött. Az egész párrbeszéd eredője persze az, hogy milyen tudatlanok és manipulálhatók vagyunk mi, olvasó emberek is — mindkét irányba.

Eredetileg csak del.icio.us linknek akartam, de ez igencsak érdekes olvasmány, ezért kiemelem. Marc Andreessen, a Mosaic, később Netscape alapítója két szakértő segítségével lejátssza a Microsoft Yahoo!-ra tett felvásárlási ajánlatának kimeneteit: a legvalószínűbb ellenséges felvásárlást, a megemelt vételárat, az ajánlattól való elállást, a jelenlegi ajánlat Yahoo! általi elfogadását, illetve a “fehér lovag” szcenáriót, amikor egy másik cég elhappolja a MS elől a Yahoo!-t.
